Oh yeah... make sure the outer edges of the pump halves are COMPLETELY straight! Otherwise, you could be in for trouble. If it doesn't slide in the trans smoothly, DO NOT FORCE IT! I started to do that, and luckily I pulled it out and checked. The halves weren't aligned EXACTLY even. The slightest shift (no matter how insignificant) could cause trouble with bolting the pump back... seems like you could strip a thread on the case.
