Backspacing is just how much the wheel will protrude outwards from where the center of the wheel bolts up to the lugs. The more backspacing you have, the more the wheel sticks out to the edge of the fender wells. If you want a wheel that pushes out to be flush with the fender, you need more backspacing.
When you see vehicles where the wheels are tucked inside the wheel wells, they have little to no backspacing---wheels that protrude outwards have a lot of backspacing.
There is not set backspacing for every wheel size. Each wheel manufacturer sets their own backspacing limits. Actually, some wheels can have several different backspacing limits--it just depends upon what look you are going for...

This seems a little bit off to me. If your wheel protrudes outward then the wheel has more of a lip which means that that the wheel has less backspacing correct?

If you want I'm putting two new tires on my wheels since its the same dimension your referring to I can give you what i have on mine this weekend. My wheels dont stick outside the fenders.

Do you have the 40mm or 12 mm?
