I just built a 383 from a 5.3L block, it was machined and a full rotating forged assembly from Eagle, under $3K.

As for what you want, a set of pistons about $800, then about $500 for assembly and boring.

Sweet, So you can bore a 5.3L to a 383... Thats exciting to know...

how thick is the cylinder walls after it?
You think there is enough room if needed for another rebuild possibly for that block later down the road?

I might just stick with the budget built 347 i had planned. Sorry for all the questions... Just very interested about the 383 now

I'll check my bills, but less than $2000 for the LS1 forged kit, it came with Diamond pistons stock bore flat top, eagle crank, eagle rods.
About $1,000 for machine work, balance and assembly.

You have a shortblock that can probably take about 20psi.

    We just built one.
