We actually just had something similar happen, we had a sewing machine type noise in our 5.7 and from researching it said it was either piston slap or noisy lifters. Oil weight was also mentioned as being a big factor, we were running 10w30 Mobil 1 but we switched to 5w30 Mobil 1 and it's been quiet ever since.

As far as your second problem, I have a feeling it's a shorted wire. I had a ground wire from the oil pressure switch short out on me, and would cause all kinds of no start conditions and stalling. Mine would also restart when the battery was disconnected and left sit over night, I hope you find your problem!!
well i'm already running 5w-30 mobil one synthetic i thought maybe if i changed the oil and went to something thicker it may help?

i also think the wire was a short or something but i have no proof and nothing to really give me any ideas i just hope it doesnt happen again lol.

the valvetrain noise really makes me nervous and i hope i didnt hurt anything by driving it home gonna be a long winter if this beast is already broke after only 200 or so miles on it lol.
