Been over on the RegalGS forum I frequent and have been discussing the top clean procedure over there . The subject of a Pcv catch can came up and someone mentioned that the older LS1's have a problem with this system:

These are the ones we normally use on the LS1, the LS1's dump a lot of oil into the intakes.

Not that our cars don't, i'm going to use the LS1 version on my car only because the PCV no longer functions correctly using the breather with the intercooler. The car isn't really drawing vacuum any more with the breather, dumping a ton of additional moisture into the oil and really not keeping the engine clean. LS1 guys claim it reduces KR and longvity of the engine.

A cheaper alternative is to use a Husky oil seperator for air compressors, cost about $25 from Home Depot. Function without the bling. Summit also sells 1 quart plastic one for $25 or smaller aluminum ones for around $80

Has anyone put a catch can on their LS1's and what were the results if so ? The link in the post above is for a premade billet catch can for F bodies btw .

On my truck i have the AMW oil catch can. It catches all kinds of oil, water, and debree from going back in the engine. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying the AMW oil catch can. You can find the guy selling it on ls1tech. All you have to do is search for oil catch can.

Thanks for that input . Looks like AMW has doubled their price to around $160 ! I found one for about $90 on another site but don't remember who made it . I'll probably make my own when I'm ready to do the top clean procedure . Jim

You will be hard pressed to make one like AMW. They have special grooves cut on the inside so that the air pressure does not let the fluid rise up the walls and enter back into the PCV. No one has made one like his. The one from AMW is machined on a multi axis CNC machine.
