Got my cam and gaskets in. I'm going to put them in tomorrow, if it doesn't rain.. Anyone have a idea how much HP gain??? It's a 2000 Y-car cam.[.500/.500 Dur.198/207 lsa115.5] Truck is stock4.8L with no pcm tune... Desktop Dyno said 31hp and 8 ftlb torque.. But I don't think thats right. Sounds like toooo much HP to me.

PS. should I do an oil change before or after cam swap?? Dirty oil help the lifters stay up?

I dont have any numbers for you but I put one in my truck last friday and blew up my tranny on sat. The truck seems to pull alot harder on the top end now though. I have a stock converter in my new tranny where I had a Yank 3000 before so the low end is hard to comment on. It feels about the same on the interstate though.

I would wait till afterwards to change the oil cause you are going to get a little grime on your parts no matter how careful you are to keep it clean. Better to get it out fairly soon afterwards.

Sorry to hear about the tranny But I think this little 4.8L might wake-up and rev a little higher..

Like I said with my father in laws '99 5.3L ext cab, he's at 15.5 now.
That is only with the cam and tuning.
When he raced that '01, it ran a 16.8 and he ran a 16.1 with tune only, now with cam 15.5.
If you use a calculator to estimate hp, that is crazy gains. Like 42hp.

that's just from calculating hp from the 1/4 mile times, not sure how accurate it is, but seems reasonable.

    later,

With this new cam and a pcm tune, what do you think it will run?? Right now I'm 15.9et stock with no traction...

15.9, I would say the cam is good for 15.4's, but that's just my guess, now add a tune to that, I would think low 15's are reasonable, assuming you get traction, it's only going to get worse with more power, lol.

    Keep us updated,

you coming to the track on the 2nd of january?

    see ya,
