    Hey guys!

After much reading and deliberating, I've decided I'll be swapping a good ol' Vortec 5.7 into my 96 instead of the Vortec 5.3. The primary deciding factor is that these trucks came with those engines stock, and with the 5 speed, and good gearing the V6 has, you can easily get good mileage with the Vortec 5.7 as well. Not to mention the engine is becoming widely available, at very affordable prices too.

So, doing some reading up on the subject, I've come to the conclusion that I should be able to pull my 4.3L, along with it's frame bracketry for the engine mounts, and all wiring, then take a 5.7L, and it's frame brackets for the engine mounts, bolt it all in, then plug the 5.7L's wiring straight in all across the board.

Am I right in believing that the only things I'll need to change is the ECM to a 5.7 / 5 speed combo (any Vortec 5.7L I find will almost gauranteed be an auto truck), building a tach signal modifier to get my V6 tach working with the V8, and finally the exhaust?

Thanks for your help yet again!

You pretty much got it covered. I was going to do this swap in my 89 s-10 blazer with the exception it was going to be an auto. Look for a work truck model, it was more common to find a manual in them over the others.

Getting ready to put an 82 Chevy 1/2 ton blazer under the knife.
