A buddy of mine wants to put an LS1 into his truck (he shows his truck). He found one with ~20,000 miles on it. It still runs. It comes with eninge and automatic transmission, computer, wiring harness, everything to hook it up (minus little details). I have a couple of questions though. I know this engine will fit in the truck with the right motor mounts. It is a 99 GMC 1500 regular cab shortbed 2wd automatic V6. Will the stock fuel pump on his truck support the fuel flow neds of a stock LS1 (for now that is)? We will eventually be ripping this thing out and building it high performance (heads, cam, pistons) for nitrous use. We'll be spraying a 75 shot on the stock engine for now. Will his stock fuel pump support that? How bout the transmission mounting points? The tranny is out of a Camaro and I'm guessing it is the 4L60-E. And if it is, shouldn't it have the same tranny mounting points? What about the intake setup? On a truck, it sucks air from the passenger side fenderwell. ON a LS1, it sucks it from straight ahead. I could probably fashion up some kind of intake to make that work, right? How about the gauge cluster in his truck? The engine is coming with all the electronic gadetry. I know the clusters LOOK different, but do they hook up differently? Are there any special adapters that my friend is gonna have to buy? Do yall know of any websites that might help us in our search for answers? I know this has been done before, I just don't know where to look. Also, if any of yall are in College Station, Texas sometime next March, drop me a line. The help would be much appreciated. Thanks for any info yall can give me.

Oh yeah. Great site by the way. I just found it. Lots of info.

    Het there new guy
I can sell you the wiring kit for this swap.
I will need your friends LS1 harness aswell as his 99 GMC engine harness. What I will do than is graft the 2 harnesses together. Odometer, Gauges, A/C, Ignition , charging system, Park/neutral switch, TCC switch, and fuel pump will be wired and will work just like the factiry intended. The grafted harness that you get back will plug back in to the truck (no cutting or splicing required)
Price of the harness $460.00 and $530 if you are going smog legal
Fuel pressure regulator will be a must if you have a single feed fuel rail. Kit price $200.00
Intake ducting Like the one on the engine $45.00

Dyantech pretty much summed it up on the wiring. I did my own harness cutting and splicing and if I would of had the money I would have definitely went with a custom harness like dynatch will make for you. It will save a lot of time, and now days, my time is very limited, lol.

The trans should mount up just fine to the crossmember.
You need about 60psi for the ls1 to run properly. Get a gauge from summit and attach it to the shrader valve.
You should be able to get some mounts from a v8 truck to make it work. The truck and ls1 engines have the same mounting bosses.

Good luck posting this on other forums and having this kind of info lol, all you'll get is "why swap out a v6, just get a v8 truck"

I say got for it, and keep us updated, there's enough ppl here to get your thru it.

Actually, I found out about yall from posting on other forums. From what I'm gathering, I'll need a new fuel pump, the mounting brackets for the engine, a new radiator with dual fnas, a FP regulator, and the custom wiring harness. Thanks for the help. Next thing to do now is start looking for performance mods. Quick question. My buddy has the volant cold air intake on his truck, is there any way we can hook that up to the LS1 and keep it? Thanks.

Most intakes are a standard 3.5 inches, you will need to fabricate a duct from the MAF sensor to the air box. Don't forget to take some pics of your conversion.

Question? With the splicing of the two harnesses...Would the Camaro computer also need to be re-programmed? If so, how much would that cost? Thanks, Gar

Most of the time the theft device can be by passed when building the harness, other things like deleting tests and unwanted stuff will have to be removed by having it programmed.
Hey, I know just the person who can do that for you, lol

Give me a shout for pricing and more info.

    thanks,

My buddy's truck doesn't have power windows (does have power locks). No factory alarm either. Does that help? I sent you an email.
