    "newb" from NJ.

    Hey all. New to the site, been lurking for a little while now. I'm looking into grabbing another Silverado, only this time more of a "street and strip" truck than the usual off road action I've previously used trucks for.

    I've had OBS Silverados, and an LS1 GTO, but never combined the LS and Silverado together.

    The truck in question is a 4.3 V6 reg cab short bed 2wd. Pretty bare bones, paint is a little rough (in a cool way) but the body is straight and everything runs and drives great. Plan is a little conservative drop, 315s out back, and a V8 up front. Ideally an LS2 but if I can get the right deals on certain things I'd likely go 4.8 or 5.3. Modest mods, small cam, regear the rear, posi... and then see where it goes from there. Of course a turbo would always be nice, but I'm trying to make this the first vehicle i've actually kept "on budget"... just something to cruise around and enjoy.

    Welcome from Texas. And I like the 4.8 for budget reasons. Do the conversion first get it squared away, and running good. Also decide if you are going N/A or F/I. And then, get and build a 6.0 longblock for what you want it to be.

    Welcome, there are some good Deals on rear mount turbo systems out there. It's a great way to start. Good luck

    yeah i was thinking of something along those lines if i get into it deep enough. with the GTO i wound up building a pretty intense and very expensive all motor car, and in hindsight it would have been far more effective just to turbo it.

    The truck is an 02 with 170k on the odo, hes the original owner and will give it away for 1000 bucks when hes ready for his new car in the next little while. I have a company car for work so i'm just looking for something to keep me busy and have a little fun. I MAY end up going with something a little lower on the miles, but being that everything is going to get swapped out anyway, the 1000 dollar straight body seems like a good way to go at this point.

    You'll be replacing everything that mileage is going to have an effect on anyway. LQ9 with 243 heads and a nice cam... then 4l80e and a nice 3600+ stall and you'll be good.

    That'd be the ideal setup right there... and i'm with you on the replacing everything that matters. I just got out of my landrover with 130k on the clock, replacements on that were quite pricey, i'm glad to be back to chevy's where everything is "cheap" and doesnt break for no good reason.
