Newb from detroit first 6.0 build, need input

My names Juan, from Detroit I own a 2000 4.8l sierra w. a 5/6 drop, silverado 20's,singlecab,fiberglass stepside bed. Been over due but finally purchased my 6.0l bone stock w. 55k miles on it and 4l65e tranny. Best idea to build while out. Friend of mine suggested 224 cams, said my 317 heads were good, rebuilt the 65e and buy a 3000 stall Two converter. pace setter headers, and a dyno tune. My question was what should I get to rebuild the trans to last, some people like shift kits, others say they brake sh*t. Input? I'm aiming at low 13's high 12's and I would be satisfied.

CAM. Singular. This isn't a DOHC motor. 224 is small for a 6l and a 3200 stall is small stall IMO. I'd go with something more like a 232/234 .595/.598 and a 3600 stall.

Cross the border into Windsor. Drive 4 hours on the 401. Bring 10 grand. You'll go home running a lot faster then high 12s.

Yea bigger cam 224 is good for a 5.3, and a 3600 stall, which is fine in a daily driver, dyno tune is good but get a live tune on the street, prolly be better for what you want, high 12s in a rcsb with a 6.0 is not hard to do so you should be good as long as you get the right cam and supporting bolt ons.

That's what I thought at first but that's set up a friend had and he was tearing his trans up and had to be pulled out a couple times.

Is the Canada truck scene big? Always wondered. I think 12's is good, still want it to be able to drive daily as much as I can. 75/100 shot later on. What do you guus think bout 242 heads, higher compression?

Yea, I was talkin to a friend of mine, he said to go w. The live street tune instead. Yank 3000 tq converter recommended? Last thing I want to do is break sh*t

The more power you have, you're going to break stuff. I don't care what your friend said. This is an LS based truck forum. We KNOW. The trans is going to have to be built regardless. That 4.8 will kill it. Just take the advice given. 3000-3200 is too small on the stall. The cam is too small as well.

Im guessing you mean 243 heads those are good, but some port and polish 317s will work and 243s are gonna change your compression, no you are gonna want a bigger stall, ive always ran yank verters and had from 3k to 3600 and the 3600 is best believe me if you go 3k you wont like it, but get a circle d stall, theyre a vendor on here and make a great product, at yank customer servise isnt great mainly cus its literally one guy named dave doing everything, plus if anything goes wrong it was your fault never his. Having a smaller stall isnt gonna save you trans, its gonna break no doubt about it so get ready, unless you get it fully built and even then its prolly gonna break, just do the 80e swap and be done. Also you need a detroit true trac cus your stock rear end is gonna also go out. It sucks man but it inevetable take it from us and just upgrade now, then you can damn sure daily drive it anywhere you want. Set aside bout 5-6 grand and watch it vanish like magic.

Forgot to mention I do have a Detroit truetrac diff. W. 3.73 gears,4:10 is in my opinion too much for freeway driving. Those heads and stall is what a friend has and he tears a bunch of s*** all the time. I have a 65e out of a silverado ss. Clutches are good. Gonna install super servo, my boy said he would cancel somethin in the trans for it wouldn't burn out and change a something shaft. Buddy of mine said those 317 heads w. A 3000tq converter is fine, said heads would add like 10hp and better off investing money in other areas. Opinion?
