    2000 chevy 4.8 cam swap

Hi, im new to the site, i have been reading plenty of threads on the cam swaps but im still uncertain on what i want, i have a 2000 chevy swb 4.8 with cold air intake, flowmaster, tb spacer, vette servo, i have a line on a cam from a 2000 vette, stock cam... It is my dd truck so i dont want to lose much low end.
I also dont plan on a tune until i can afford to buy long tubes and such..
If anyone has ran this cam i would like to know how it was, and what kind of gains and losses to expect...
2000 chevy swb stepside 4.8, mods as of now,tb bypass, ported tb,cold air intake, pacesetter lts, no cats, flowmaster single in dual out, vette servo, 2000 vette cam, hp tuners tuned by shane, and e-fans...

    Tune first.

Read around on here, there is much to learn.

IMO the cam is too small for the work needed.

+1 on both, tune has free updates when you add new parts.

Im really looking to go cheap, i want to buy the parts i want a little at a time then when im done bolting on i want to go to the dyno, as far as cam i dont really want anything larger than the z06 cam, and i also heard that i would need the longer push rods.. Is this true, if so what else will i need, as i have found plenty of z06 cams for sale for around $100, would i be able to run this setup without a tune until i could afford it..

Cheap? stop now.......This place will spend your $$$
Dyno is not the end all be all. quarter times, and happiness is more important than numbers. push rod length depends on lifter preload.
There is a reason Z06 cams and 1986 toyota camry's are cheap.

    1. get a tune, and be happy
    2. get a converter and be happier
    3. get gears and be even happier
    4. do a cam swap with a real cam and shit your pants with excitement.
    5. get board with it and sell a kidney on the black market to buy a TT setup, and still not go fast enough.

Being the internet, people complain more than praise. That being said I have not found a complaint about nelson.

Stock truck don't need dyno tuned. All the big 3 mail order tuners (Nelson, Blackbear, Wheatley) have done thousands of trucks like yours and have it perfected

I have decided to buy this 2000 vette cam for 30$, i dont really have the money to spend on a tune and all that yet, but i have to change a waterpump gasket on my truck so i thats where i got the idea on the cam swap, also i dont plan on pulling the heads ever. so i really just want to do a very mild cam that doesnt require a spring change.. i will let you guys know what kind of difference it makes, from what i have read i can actually gain some good hp without losing too much low end, and i cant afford to lose any or have to drop my tranny just so i can pull my boat... But you guys have me set on a nelson tune once i get the extra money..
