As far as what I use, Rotella 10w-30 and a Napa filter. Rotella is one of the few "dirty" oil's left. Meaning it has all the stuff engines love, and hippies hate. In the winter I step down to a decent name brand 5w-20
What about swaping from Mobil 1 to Rotella?
What would the advantage of Rotella be over Mobil 1?

I take the advise my Uncle gives. He's worked in the oil industry and product distribution for over 30 years combined....

Cost. I get Rotella in bulk for the tractors. Few 5 gallon pales of 15w40 for them, couple pales of 10w30 for my truck, my brothers '91 and Dad's old Ford. The TDI's get Castrol Syntec. The HD gets Mobil 1. 4 licensed drivers in the house. 6 vehicles licensed and on the road. Plus my bike, lawn mowers, ATV, etc. Go through lots of oil. And I have about 4 binders of service records I keep.

My Dad with 50 years experience owning Heavy Duty equipment use to say that all the time....

Until his beloved D8R's and D155AX's engines start dying at 2-3K hours due to premature wear.

He had to be convinced by Techs, Gurus and David Blane !

Now he knows new tricks !!!

i ran fram filters for a whole bunch of years, (since i was 16), until i saw some u tube videos, i was looking for some videos on the oil hydrocracking process & stumbled across a filter comparison, i will NEVER put another fram filter on anything. i have probably 50 napa gold filters on my shelf now, they run them 50% off every now & then but its not advertised, $3 for a good filter isnt bad. the fram filters i had left got 7.62 holes put in them. some auto parts store always has oil on sale and i dont buy oil at napa & since im such a nice guy (lol) i always ask someone in the parts store what filter they need & give the filter they give me with the oil away
