    FWIW---

As of Jan 30, 2006 GM has gone back to greasing shafts only and no longer replacing them . Took my truck in this morning to find this out. Luckily, they were out of grease and they have a few shafts on the shelf and are replacing the unit as we speak. There were 4 other tahoes and trucks that were in the service bay at 8am this morning with the same issue.

The service manager tried to tell me that the service did not cover 4wd models until I made him look like a fool in front of everyone in the service dept.

Ouch...that sucks. They must be looking for ways to cut more costs I suppose.

Glad I got mine replaced already, now as long as it doesn't go out again.

That is just sick. Why not fix it right the first time? I am a true dyed in the wool GM guy but that is just stupid.

Got the truck back late yesterday. Man, night and day difference in the steering wheel. Never knew how bad the vibration in the wheel was until now. Well worth the hassle to get fixed. It is a tight as the day I got it. Hopefully it will stay that way now.
