GM Remote Start AP8 option how to?

hey guys, want to buy a few of this accessories, but have no idea if they will work on the hybrid trucks.

I have a few Hybrid Tahoe s, and they come from factory with the remote starter.

Does anyone knows what I need for making this installation, and what will be the procedure?

Thanks in advance for any help

    That hard huh?

    Let's refrase it....

I have on the glove box the AP8 wich means is remote starter prep.

Part number 17801236 states that comes with 2 controls, a CD with instructions and a CODE !

Now, every dealer here has no clue about the system install and is a NO NO for any help.

Since I know I'll have to reprogram the BCM with a VCI code......question is :

Does the code that comes in the kit is the VCI?

I have the tech 2 and the USB new thingy.....will that allow me to reprogram the truck?

    Please guys, chime in !

lo-lyf is how he spells it IIRC. I don't think he's done a STOCK style remote setup though. I do know he has done some Viper type systems, as have I. I don't know anything about the stock setup unfortunately.

If you have a tech2 and it's updated, and you have access to TIS and you can connect to the modules, you can reprogram and relearn anything.

I can't discuss this bcause I have not tested. But most of this 2009 rigs just open to the MDI.

I think the code that is on the KIT, is just a TIS access code.

    Not sure.....

    I'll end up buying a MDI....oh well !

ok guys, so far this is what I found....

At first I was thinking to get the 2 way advance Remote Starter. For the looks and the options it look awesome. Further research showed, that for my daily use and life style, this option was prone to lcd scratches and to big for a jeans front pocket !!! I have never use a coat down here, and carrying a purse is not an option...lol Here some pics.

After that, I focus on part # 17801236 and tryed to find out the procedures for reprogramming the BCM.

At first, most guys told me that the code in this kit plus Tech2 and 3 minutes was all that it was needed to activate the remote start.

    Deeper searches confirm my fears.

Not only Tech2 is not able to reprogram the BCM (still some doubts because some said Tech2 + CAN module could), but the code in the kit is for calling GM Techlink.

From there GM guys, will ask my VIN and with that code, will overwrite the OEM VIN options file they have. Once this is done, you have to connect to their tis2web site with the MDI connected to your vehicle.

MDI will read your vehicle VIN OEM options, and then from the web, will receive the the new VIN options (already changed by GM with the code given from the kit. Changing AP8 to AP3)

MDI will reprogram the BCM according with the new info, activating the remote starter option.

So. in a few words, I need to take the truck to the dealer. There is suppose no way to go around this.

    Now the new question is....

Can anyone call the GM techlink dudes and ask the upgrade, or only the dealer can do it?

If I have the MDI here with the one year subscription, I could connect from here if the VIN is already upgraded, and reprogram the BCM.....just guessing.

I really want to install this.......any tips, advices here?

And please don't tell me to install an after-market remote starter, is not an option !

Thanks guys and hope this info helps people clear some doubts when looking for install this option !

    A specific
VCI number cannot be used for any other
    kit or any other VIN.
To request a VCI number, call the
    Techline Customer Support Center (TCSC)
    at 1.888.337.1010 (1.800.503.3222 French).
    – You must identify yourself as a dealer
    or an ADI.
    – You must provide the VIN of the
    vehicle involved.
    – You must provide the Authorization
Code affixed to the instruction sheet
that is supplied with the kit.

Any one here working on a dealer that can give me a hand?
