Couldn't you just buy a different t-stat housing?

there are a couple aftermarket ones that will work with old school sbc thermos...but they are kinda big bucks.
the 04+ had different bolt holes/design to make it work. So you'd need, 04+ pump, housing, stat. not worth it IMO
