..another cam thread. I already have this one, wondering if it's worth spraying on

I bought this cam because I planned on keeping this truck a daily driver, and I wanted 'useable' power for my big tires/extra weight.

Since then, I've bought a daily driver, and decided to go a little more extreme with the truck.

I have a set of heads at machine shop now, I have this cam http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1085&sb=2, I have a set of headers waiting, and now I'm thinking about throwing on a nitrous kit for days I'm really in the mood to 'play'. Truck will get 42lb injectors, walbro pump, and probably a 2800 stall verter whenever the trans goes.

I know the cam is not extreme by any means, but like i said, this thing is HEAVY and getting it rolling is main priority. I want it to be quick w/o the spray, but having it fast with would be a nice bonus.

Would this cam handle the nitrous alright? I'm new to nitrous world, and don't want to waste the money on the kit, if a 150 shot will end up netting me 25 horse because of my cam. But I also don't want a truck that is a dog, unless I'm spraying.

shifty that is one big azz truck lol, BUT i like it, its very clean and nice, the cam you chose would work well, with or without nitrous, im sure theres a better cam out there BUT i have no idea which one lol.. thus is why i go to patrick or ed or eric or someone in the know about cams.. im not asking you to do this just letting you know how i pick my parts

i personally think you'll gain more than you think on the juice specially with a 150 shot,

just snapped that you have heads at the machine shop, thats gonna change the overall picture even more.. i would sugguest going ahead and talking to a cam specialist

You know what your truck needs? Four Oh Eight. There are "nitrous cams" and there specs look a lot like cam that work good with FI. Which is usually more exhaust duration than intake and a wide LSA. Like yours. But yeah, I'm all for you getting one custom spec'd too

Price was right on this cam...wasn't the one I had wanted originally, but was spec'd for a guy with same size tires.

I doubt I'll use the juice very often. Truck is becoming a Sunday cruiser, I'll be lucky if i take it to the track twice a year, just want something for those pesky Z06's that think money can buy fastest car alive.

Main goal is to kick it sideways at 30mph w/o juice...maybe 60 with it lol

Dude I honestly think that cam is too small for what you want. Look into the comp LSr cams. I think they will be more along the lines of what you want.

Might need a 6.0 with TR224 and 3000 stall to do that.

Ya I realized that. The cam is more for low end to get this beast moving. The nitrous is to compensate for the fact it won't be that fast NA. I don't want a cam that moves the RPM range too high, because the stock cam is bad enough off the line. Grandmas with walkers have better 60' times then me. I will eventually get a 2500-3000 stall converter (leaning towards 2800 currently) to help a little, but I don't want an engine I have to redline nonstop to be 'fast'. I plan on spraying from 2800-5800 or so in each gear. If I ever run into some extra money, I'd like to get a 6.0 block, transfer these worked heads, and I'd probably buy a different cam at that time. The price was right on this one, and it was recommended to a guy who had similar suspension/tires as me.

Like I said my buddy has a 02 z28 with a larger cam, and a 3200 (or so) stall, and it is a PAIN to drive on the street. The truck will barely ever see the strip, it's more something for me to cruise to Dairy Queen on Sundays, occasionally open up on backroads. It goes off road, it tows, it's used as a truck more then a race car...but I still have a really heavy foot.

My friends ss454 silverado runs a mid 13, and that truck is realistically plenty fast for what I want (of course, once I hit mid 13, I'll want high 12's)
