    Exclamation Help tuning race car

    I need help if anyone knows how to FIND TOP-DEAD-CENTER ON THE TIMING WHEEL if u have heads shaved at 100,000 the stock top dead center location is not right cause shaving the heads throws everything off Please help, race next weeken. Its a 1979 ford mustang 2.3L

    this is ls1truck.com not oldrundownfordmustang.com but if u still have the timing cover on there are some numbers that should tell u where its at..and shaving the heads wont throw of tdc.. tdc is the piston not the head.....so therefore my friend.....YOU FAIL!!!

    Or a screwdriver... and just stick the screw driver in the spark plug hole with a rubber band to keep it pulled upward. Then when the piston pushes up on the tip, the handle will go down until you hit TDC and then it will starts going back up.

    i dont know anything about the ford 2.3. is it the ohc version of the 2.3? if so milling the head down to raise CR will retard the cam timing. how much did you mill the head?

    milled 100,000, OHC, how do u get the cam level and also if milling heads on a OHC how would u determin where normal would be?? thanks

    milling the head isnt gonna throw ur cam off enough to notice...just line up the timing dots and its good to go

    Danger is correct about it not throwing your cam timing off to much. .01 isn’t that big of a mill, if memory serves when I milled a toyota 5sfe head .040 it retarded the cam timing somewhere around 3.5 degrees as a + it pushed the power up a couple of 100 rpm on the toyota.

    Sorry didn’t know were my head was at but realized after I signed off .01 is a huge mill and using .040 and 3.5 as a guide your cam timing is -8.75 degrees

    to find TDC get a dial indicator and measure piston travel on cylinder #1 (front driver side) and where it is the highest is TDC.
