Just a simple question. My buddy has a 2005 GMC Sierra Z71. It is his 1st 4X4. He wants to turn his front rotors, because it has a groove cut into it. So with this being his 1st 4X4 the would like to know, because he heard, does he need a specail tool to remove/ instal the rotors from the CV shafts? I also posted this in the 4x4 section too.

If the brakes are working OK ----If there is no pulsating , squealing , pulling to one side.I would not touch them.
The pads wear into the grooves and work fine.
Thinner rotors from turning will heat up quicker.
No special tools required. Pull off the wheel, remove caliper, then pull off the rotor.
I would not pull the rotors off either, but he said it is pulling when applying the breaks, plus he is concerned since he pulls trailers to teh deerlease and such places. Thanks for the helps fellas.

It is rare but---
Bad tires can cause pulling when braking, just switch the front tires and see if it changes.

I do beleive he did already rotated the tires around and had them balanced, but I will ask him.

pulling isn't caused by warped rotors, warped rotors cause pulsation. It might be a bad caliper or hose overheating the brakes on one side and causing it to pull. Is one wheel way dirtyer than the other?
Or it could be something worn in the front end and when he gets on the brakes the alignment goes out, causing the pull.

Thats what I suggested to him also... Maybe a sticking caliper. Keep the ideas coming.
