I think typically any longtube, on a pretty much stock LSx engine is good for 15-20rwhp after tuning. I'm not a dyno freak since my truck's a worker. I just wanted to have a more efficient running truck, which I got. It sounds and revs so much "cleaner" now, but I'm still not quite content with my catback choice....soon to change, again...

I thought that too, but have yet to read/hear anything bad about them.

I would too, if I was cammed and better heads, etc...but stock bolt-on 5.3 I think matches perfectly with how they're setup...JMO.

Same here. My yearly pay was 30% lower in 2009, than in 2008, so spending any cash on "wants" instead of "needs" is not done unless I am confident of the end result. So far, so good.

What about the resonators that come with them, that change the sound?

Honestly, I do not think so. They look like mini mufflers when you look inside of them, but I don't think that there's enough internal holes for any exhaust note (or flow) to actually be changed by them...if that makes sense?
Unfortunately, I don't think I ever got any pics of the inside of them.

FWIW, the more I think about it, I don't think they even get anywhere near as hot as the pipes around them do.

Check out the pics I attached. You can clearly see the pipes are discolored, but the shell of the resonator appears like it's barely touched by heat.

The resonators probably do make a difference. If you were to remove them you'd probably notice some time of drone or whistle that wasn't there before. I would leave them on because they do not inhibit flow.

As for the discoloration it's probably because the resonator has a wider diameter than the rest of the piping. Which means that there is more metal to distribute the heat and results in less discoloration.

They appear to be quality built headers and you can't really screw up long tube design.

I finally got my pacesetters from car-parts-somethin-or-other out of Chicago. Took them 10 days to ship them 450 miles.

I wish I'd paid the $20 shipping and got them from Texas Speed.

After reading the link to rel3rd's thread I kinda wish I'd just bought the ebay ones..

    No intention of removing mine.
I wonder if the resonators are enough of a restriction to allow using the rear O2's to eliminate the Check Engine light? Theoretically, they should.

I'm definitely please with their fitment and quality, and I'd guess you were right about why the resonators themselves aren't discolored...your theory makes sense.

The reason for the resonators is to throw off the state inspector. He will think you have cats on the truck still and will not question it. However, if you live in a emissions county the sniffer will still get you for not having cats.

That's true, but I thought most newer vehicles didn't even have to do the "sniffer" test?

I know in Maryland, a 98 or newer (I think that's the cutoff year), vehicle just has the OBD-II test, which checks for codes and that's it.

    No codes = pass
