Newb with an old truck and a newer engine

I have a 1986 Chevy K20 with a worn out drivetrain. I'm starting my research to drop in the 5.3 I got out of a salvaged Tahoe. My plan right now is to have it bolt right up to the SM465 tranny and keep most everything else stock. I just want an older truck with all the benefits of the Gen III engine.

Besides my truck, I drive a 2004 Pontiac GTO and I have a 1984 Jeep CJ7 project that will eventually get put back together. I post on a couple of forums for the LS1, GTO and Jeep.

I also maintain a gear ratio calculator at Gear Ratio Calculator. It's a good tool for running the numbers to see how changing your tranny, gear ratio and/or tire size will change things.
