I was thinking about getting a 160* thermostat for my truck and I was wondering if it would make a big improvement in performance? I was also wondering if it would hurt the driveability of my truck?![]()

And has ZERO ill effects from it, still have more heat than I need in
winter here. And with Mechanical fan in my truck there was no need
to program anything.

X is right unless you either manually turn on the fans with a switch or reprogram the computer you will see no gain. Besides a cooler running engine mostly helps to avoid detonation, but as far as performance it wont be no 5 horses if thats what you think. If you got the cash do it.
Had a 91 SB, Open diff, 3.08 gears, stock LS1/T56. 14.8@95.9...sold.
Now, 90 C1500 350tbi/NV3500....just bought a 5.3...need T56, Swap parts.....
Don't forget too low of coolant temps are bad too. It keeps oil from getting thin robbing HP among other things, doesn't let it get off they cylinder walls, etc.
I'm going to go back to a 180° here when I get the chance.
Better cooling comes from an H20 pump that doesn't cavitate, more efficient radiator (thicker and wider), and well that's all I can think of aside from a good set of e-fans.

180* is the minimum temp for healthy combustion, mine runs at 188* with a hypertech 160 powerstat and Allen tuned the fans for it.

No 34 inch radiator here, how much does that lower the coolant temps??

Pretty noticable, I don't have a laptop to go log it but it even makes the factory dummy gauge read lower!Originally posted by chrisj6@Mar 26 2005, 01:29 PM
