8.5 and 8.6 gears are the same. He sounds full of it. The only way the gears wont fit is if they are lower than 2.76, or higher than like 5.10 or something. IMO, find a buddy that does know what he is doing. And do it your self.Originally Posted by alabamachevy15

like they said 8.5 8.6 gears are the same.ive even used 8.5 and 8.6 gears on the same eaton posi unit.it worked ,the 8.5s were out of a 80s camaro and i put them in my truck with my 8.6 eaton unit.
