    5.3l Planned Build-Up

so i'm getting ready to build my 5.3L for my 96 1500

    Plans are as follows:
Block: bored to accept LS1 pistons
    Heads: Patriot 243 LS6 / LS2 2.055"/1.57" 64cc
Cam: 2xx/2xx .600/.610 114 still undecided on durations
LS6 intake with TB, both P&P
    Longtubes

Any thoughts or suggestions? This will be my first motor build. I've read a lot but still feel i'm missing a lot of things

    Thanks!

I would buy a 6.0. cheaper to buy a used motor than to machine and you'll have more cubes. But if you want a bored 5.3 aka iron 5.7, I know were one is. heads will be good, You might want a better intake. Remember that with the iron 5.7 the biggest you can ever go is a stroked 383... with the 6.0 you can go WAY higher.

You asked for a suggestion. I would also advise getting a 4l80e.

Get a smaller cam or get a 4000 stall and 4.56's.

a low 22x cam will be just fine for that build with a 3000-3600 stall.
    s10 with 4l60e and cammed 5.3 on the road!THREAD

Is there a low 220 with that much lift? I guess someone makes one. Seems like most of the .600+ lift cams have a lot more duration than most truck builds need.

it's an LG motorsports cam. since i plan on basically having an iron block LS1 i've been asking around on f-body and GTO forums and that cam is a very popular choice

"That" cam? Which cam? I know you pretty much have to buy one of theirs to know the specs but it sounds like you're referring to a specific cam. What are the spec? Wait, they won't tell you, huh?

After the 1st go round in this topic I looked a very little amount of time and found the 22X cams usually coming in around .560-585"...anything near .600" was high 22X intake and low 23X exhaust on a much more difficult to live with (at that duration) 112 LSA and only near .600"...the .600"+ cams were in the 240's with 108-112 LSA. For that you'd need a 4000 stall and 4.56's minimum to actually be able to drive it. Yes, 3600 is not much less than 4000.....
