Thread: I Need Help On Big Engine Swap Decision

  1. #1

Exclamation 4000$ Need To Decide What To Do With My Truck!!

I Have A 1999 Chevy Silverado, Single Cab 4.3l, Automatic, Basically Stock

I'm currently debating on whether to do a 6.0L swap or a 5.7L LS1. I've heard pro's and con's on both, and I'd just really like to hear your opinions on both engines?

throw the v6 away, buy a nice 6.0 foa a grand or so, and do a cam and some small mods and it will be much better. the v6 would be a waste of money IMO. hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. That's what I first had in mind after purchasing the truck, but then the LS1 came to mind. Just wanted to get a few opinions on them. But now, so far I'm leaning towards the 6Liter.

6.0 is just a bigger ls1 with an iron block. so its stronger... and if not done right you can blow anything with spray... we have alot of guys spraying alot, and do it right and fairly reliably.

If I go with the 6.0, I'll still be able to keep my current tranmission correct?

The 60e wont hold well to the 6.0
Either get a built 60e or a 4L80e. The 80e will rob you of a lot of low end power though, thats what I have. I would do either a 6.0 or a 6.2 Depends on your budget. And also if you have any desire to toss a cam/heads on the motor do it while its out. Also its a good idea just to take the heads off and stuff just to get them cleaned up while the motor is out before you put it in.

start small, focus on getting the v8 u want in and running. if you get too carried away trying to fix the tranny and everything else you probably will need one day you will be out of money half way into it and it wont be running and you will get discouraged..... Then you can do the tranny, and supporting mods to motor later on as you get more money. just my .02

Yea I've been doing some researching on "V6 to V8 Swaps" and so far I plan on getting the engine and accessories first. If I have some left over, I'll definitely work on the transmission. When I bought my truck, I was told there was a few things done to the Transmission, but I was never told exactly what it was?
