Allen, I am getting a Thunder racing 220/220 .551/.551 112 cam with LS6 ported oil pump, JWIS chain, 7.400 pushrods, 918 springs. I also have a ASP pulley, KN FPIK, Borla exhaust, vette servo, and descreened MAF sensor. I have all the confidence in the world in you when it comes to tuning. Thunder told me that I would lose some low end but pick up alot of mid and upper. I dont know, but how close can you get a tune the first try? I didnt know if you have done this cam in a 5.3 before. At the time that I will install your tune I will also have Thorley headers.

Also they recommended me getting a stall verter, but after the tune and headers I will be short on cash so is that cam and tune drivable without a stall? Thinking a 3000 stall like a TCI or Vigilante, and a built trans but it will be a 4 months after the cam install.

gears that I have are 3.42 But I am thinking about a Eaton and 3.90's or 4.11's Do you have any suggestions on a good gear for the cam I am running Also I have a RCSB and thunder did this cam in a RCSB and made 340rwhp!!!

    Thanks in advance

Ya don't need a ported oil pump.

New OE chain is more than fine.

Get some TFS rods, they are about $80 for a set of 16.

Put your MAF screen back in

'02+ LS6 springs should be okay with that cam

Get you a TransGo shift kit and billet OD servo

Now... you'll have a decent flatspot in power with that cam over stock. I'd go with a PI converter if you have the cash or are frugal and score a used one. With a fat stall and that cam, you'll have big traction problems... you may want to keep the 3.42:1 gears. If not, go all the way to a 4.10:1. You can take advantage of them with the big cam you'll get.

I have already bought everything and I am just waiting on the cam to come in. I appreciate all the info. I will try to put the screen back in, but I will probley just buy a new one from a dealership. Hey, hitman its been a while since we talked on a other LS1 site that you left. Since then I have had nothing but problems with my trans. Dealership replaced the 2-4 band becasue is was worn down and the trans would slip very bad. Then when I got it back there was something stuck in the valve body that was not allowing it to go into overdrive. I want a little more than just a shift kit and servos. I did put a corvette servo in it and it helps but it falls on its face between the 1-2 shift. I just want it gone through, my buddies friend, which builds trans for a living said for 800 he would put red alto bands and high performance clutches etc, plus a transgo and billet servos. He said I wouldnt have any problems with it after he was done. He has built one for a 550rwhp ex cab 5.3 and it still runs great (shift pretty hard ). I will go with the vigilante because everyone that ownes them loves them. I just dont know what gears to go with 3.42 or 4.11??????? Which would be faster in the 1/4?????

some do ok with it. allen prefers it to be in when he tunes so the pcm gets a better reading on the air going by it. that way the pcm can adjust properly for it.

    Hey how's your progress going?

Looks like you'll have a beast to drive in no time!

The cam will work will, but you'll loose some lowend, I'd go with something smaller and keep the power down low and mid range. Just where you'll use it on the street.
The 4.10's and stall will work nicely, the cam will be decent enough for daily driving without a stall, but get one in there soon, oh ya, and some sticky tires.

A trans cooler may be needed as well, once you get the stall.

A strong cam, built trans, 3K stall, 4.10's, no TM, and a tune will get you moving quick!

    good luck,

    allen

Cool deal, if he can get ya worked over... do it! I like those Red Eagle frictions a lot myself too.

Just remember, with a billet intermediate servo (goes in place of the 'Vette one) it's going to shift firmer, even more so with a good performance band like the Alto one. Your bud should get you all fixed up with feed holes and stuff.

Again with the gears, they'll be a hit or miss. 4L60E's have the lowest 1st gear on a street vehicle... lower than a Mopar auto or Ford auto. So you'll still have the jump. Just something to think about. PI converters are excellent, I ran one many moons ago in another vehicle and would again if one was more orientated for my Pig I call a Z. lol

Well I got the cam in Wednesday along with the 180 stat. I had everything else sitting in the gargage. Allen I will get a hold of you closer to Christmas, becasue that is when I am going to order a set of Dynatech headers since they will be on sale. I just want to say thanks to the people that responded.

First I am going to install the headers and then do the cam swap and tune at the same time. With 60% TQ management removed.

Then the built trans and PI verter will be come after that with total elimination of TQ management

    4.11's and a Eaton last

My goal is to make a 12 second run NA, gonna need traction bars, slicks, and adj shocks to do it though, heck I wouldn't care if it was a 12.9 just as long as it is in the 12'a
