L31 - the last of the Gen I's. Those engines had the good Vortec heads and intake manifolds. The cam you selected will work well with the engine - strong mid range and will pull hard into the low 5000's RPM. It will have a mild lope, but still produce high vacuum at idle. Depending on the vehicle weight, you may need more gear or a higher stall (if auto). The cam has fairly aggressive lobe profiles and 22 degrees more intake duration than the stock cam, so expect about 40-50 more HP. You should be right at 300-310 HP at the crank.

that would be 212/218@.050. Lift with 1.5 rockers is .488/.495.

In a stock L31, I think it would work very well.

The L31 is almost identical to the iron head LT1. The LT1 has a little higher compression ratio and the LT1 intake.

What gears and what size tires does the truck have now?

I still think that cam would work well, but it would like more gearing. With those tires and since you've already got 3.42s, I would jump straight to 4.10s.
