exhaust question

ok i was just looking through the newbie checkin and the dude from NH has dual exit before the rear tire on both drivers side and passengers side.
im bringing this up because thats what i had on my 73 and i loved it. i really wanted to do it on the 99 but the guys at the exhaust shop i got it done at said that youre not supposed to and they wouldnt do it and all this other gay stuff....soooooo im wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how i would go about doing it myself or what to tell someone else to do cuz i may be too lazy to do it....just things like where to cross over or if i can run the drivers side pipe straight back parallel to the drive shaft eliminating the y-pipe?
im very confused with this one.

thats why i was asking.......
i mean on my 73 it was no big thing seeing how the gas tank was in the bed
thats what im wondering with this tho...if you look at his its right up under the tank

I don't really care as much about where the tank is as much as how it might look or sound. Ya know?

yeah i agree. thats kinda the thing im wondering i guess...is it really a bad thing to have it there???
cuz to me i love the way it looks. and i dont really know if it would change the sound all that much?
