    Talking Got Cammed

Cam shaft install. Comp Cam 212 216 LS114 .557 .561 lift [ from Nelson Per.], CC Push Rods, CC 1.75 Roller Rockers, Z06 valve springs.

    1. Didn't have any trouble sticking the distributor back in to get #1 to line up. Hee Hee
    2. 15/16" 6 point socket doubles as a 24mm.
    3. If your too lazy to drain the block by dumping antifreeze all over the starter, after you get the water pump off use fish tank air line
hose to siphon the pick stuff out of out of the block water pump hole. Its keeps it from drolling into the oil pan.
    4. A kids plastic snow sled makes a big drain pan. [ for those who know what snow is ]
    5. If you use a spark plug socket, take the rubber plug holder out and throw away. They are good for cracking plugs if you torque sideways.
Use a rubber hose to take the plug out and start when installing.
    6. A rope down the plug hole and turn the crank to hold the valves up when RR the springs. Thanks to Redheartbeat.
    7. A chain to hold the harmonic balancer when removing-installing bolt. Thanks to Redheartbeat.
    8. Clean the water hose insides and fittings with soap and water to keep antifreeze from drolling later on.
    9. If your are too cheap to buy valve spring compressors, make your own.
    10. If you don't get the right feel when adjusting rocker arms and the lifters bleed down, [ they get real soft ]. Don't try to get the pushrods from turning you will go to far. Just get the rockers from clicking, a very light touch.
    11. When you start it up if the lifters have bleed down run away and come back in ten minutes. The loud clicking noise should be gone by then.
    12. If your left valve cover doesn't fit because the CC roller rocker studs hit the breather plate, don't fear. Grind the valve cover lip that is underneath the end of the plate, elongate the breather holes in the plate, grind out the stud boss --you will find it when you start beating the aluminum plate, put a piece of aluminum sheet inside each of the two gaps to close up the holes or else the vacuum might suck too much oil into the breather system. Then beat the plate down into the valve cover measure and check by putting it on with out the gasket. Silicon the bolt hole you opened up when putting the coils on.
    13. If you want to know how much to turn the nuts for a specific preload on the lifters . If you don't skip this part.
[thread pitch is on the adjustment nut threads] [ " / " means to divide by ]
    preload / rockerarm ratio / thread pitch = degrees X 360
    .045" / 1.75 / .04166 = .617 X 360 = 222 degrees turn on the nut

If you want to know what 1/2 turn will give you in preload.
thread pitch X degrees X Rocker ratio = preload
    .04166 X .5 X 1.75 = .036"
    14. If you thought you had a quiet running exhaust, with a larger cam, it just got noisier.
    15. This information is free, any damage it might cause your engine is not.

Thanks to all for posting stuff to make the cam change easy. Thanks to Allen for picking the right Cam for my 1/2 ton truck that weighs 2&1/2 tons.

well how does it feel? Have you got it tuned yet at all? How long did it take for you to install it?

I forgot to mention, a new tune came in the box too!
Runs great --only put on about 20 miles. Will give it a work out when I go hunting next week.

If I was getting paid by flat rate I would of lost my shirt. I took my time and cleaned everything I took off. Made a valve spring compressor [bolt down double valve type ] that took a while. So 1 week is the correct answer. But I was in no hurry.

    Just a comedic response...

    1. You don't have a distributor? How is your engine running??? Hee hee...
    2. Why not just use a 24mm socket?
    3. Getting anitfreeze all over the place is just a part of a cam swap...
    4. Or just use a 15 quart drain pan....but you have to move it 87 times to catch all the antifreeze...
    5. Are you trying to take them off/on after 12 beers? I always leave the rubber gasket in...it holds the spark plug in so I don't drop it into the drain pan...
    6. Or use compressed air to hold up valves... but make sure to move air hose when moving to the next pair of valve springs...if not, have fun fishing them out--or be prepared to go get head gaskets...
    7. Use an impact wrench. 100X easier...
    8. Just spit on it... "That's what she said."
    9. Go buy the $8 valve spring compression tool from O'Reilly and use some Southern Engineering skills to fab up one that fits better...
    10. Couldn't have said it better...
    11. If it doesn't, turn off engine. Valvetrain is ruined by then... Start over with #1...
    12. Yup, yup!
    13. Or just torque to the feel of your pants or 22 ft.lbs....
    14. I like noisy exhaust....
    15. No warranty available???? What a crock!
