All of this free spirited motor swappin is sort of new to me, but I like it. I see a lot of guys saying they got smokin deals on donors here and there and wondered what the story is. I'm sure guy's with shops(or that work in shops) have some inside connects from personal sources, but the whole internet salvage scene leaves me with a few questions. I've heard names like schramm and a few others, and am wondering what the story is. It seems weird picking out a motor from a vehicle/business sight unseen with little back round on the original rig. What have your personal experiences been like when aqquireing donors online?

its tough to hurt these motors. the way i would think about it is whoever had the motor before me couldnt have put it through more shit than im guna im pulling my 60k motor for a 100k motor and dont have any doubts.

old mod list: H/C/I/N/E/G 408
new mod list: 5.3, gears/posi, mufler and tune : (

shramm seems legit, they have sold a lot of motors online, and theyd have a bad seller rating if they sold bad products. i was skeptical before i got my LQ4, but the guy bought it from hi-way auto parts and that kinda eased my mind, cuz ive heard great things about them, and it had a peace of paper attached to it stating what it came out of and VIN number and they rate their engines, mine was rated as a B engine, and im assuming anything major would drop it lower than a B. it runs fine from what i can tell so far, but like mentioned above, these engines r hard to mess up AND again whoever had it before really couldnt put it through more than i will haha.

Thats a pretty good way to look at it, especially since I want to swap motors and mash it off road. I'll check out high way and do a little research.

I have a 2wd 94 4.3L V6 reg cab 1500 with 4L60e tranny. Not really looking for monster power. A noticeable difference and reliability would be nice. The five point three seems to be a decent option. I like the idea of being able to use a stock 5.3 harness and basically being able to keep the cost relatively low. Plus, I think my stock tranny wouldn't perform so hot(for vey long) with a tuned ls1 turning it.

not a huge difference in the ls1 and 5.3 if it cant hold an ls1 it isnt gonna do much better with a 5.3. how many miles does ur current setup have on it? 5.3 would be alot more efficient as far as initial costs go, so id prob go that route. what u run into is if u ever want monster power the ls1 gives u more displacement, and the 6.0 gives u even more. a lot of people say there's no substitute for displacement, and u may spend a lil more right now, but its more expensive later on to have it bored out.
