My question is it seems like the 6.0 woulds be an easier swap since its already an availiable motor in the trucks? But is the 6.0 capable of making the power to get down the 1/4 at good times?. Also can that 6.0 be cammed out as much as the Z28's.( My buddy has a SS with head and cam work done at MTI in houston, its a pretty nasty sounded beast, thats the sound I am looking for.) And also is the 6.0 a cheaper swap?

I think either one of the engines would kick ass in your truck.

The 6.0L can definitely be made to ls1 or better specs. Hell, I'm sure the LQ9 is making more than the LS1 to begin with.
I always lean towards the LS1, but that's just because I have one.

Which every engine you can get your hands on would be the right engine, hehe. You can't go wrong with either one.

Did you have your eye on an engine? Are you able to get one?
It'll be an easy swap regardless of what engine you go with. They are the same externally, so everything bolts up the same. Assuming you're going to use the truck accessories and intake.

    keep us updated,

I like the LQ9 better, but that may be because thats what i have.

The LQ9 has 345 hp 380 torque, i dont remember what the LS1 has exactly but i know its close.

I think the 6.0 would be better just because you have that extra few inches.

The LS1 is lighter but i personally would rather have the bigger motor in the heavy truck. You wont be dissapointed with a cammed 6.0.

What would be a good cam for the LQ9 that would bump the power and keep drivability? LS6, LS1 hot cam, or custom? Just curious what you all think....

The ls1 cam is the same cam in the lq9, so that's one's out.
    cam info

The ls1 hot cam has a 112 lsa, so that's ones out, it will rumble and you'll loose drivablitly, plus the gas smell is apparent, not a nice cam for someone wanting good driving.

i'd say a nice 114 cam or even the "old man" cam, 115 that comp cam has.
I like the 224/224 or close cam that thunder racing has.

what do you have in mind mike?

Oh I dunno, just thinking..... The LQ9 long blocks look to be about 3grand new from GM. Just wondering how it would respond to the right cam. Dropping in a RCSB is still got me thinking.....

I'll let you know how a cam responds to the 224/224 cam from TR, I should be installing that 6L, LQ9 , into that '01 Silver ec.

I just got thru doing a stage I or so on the heads this weekend, they turned out good, not a lot of grinding, but just worked them a bit, the exhaust ports feel like glass, very nice.

A reg cab would be awesome, what year truck are you looking at?

If someone would just put a few $$$ in a reg cab, they'd have the fastest one out.

I bet 11's are within easy reach, hahha, it's easy to say but hard to actually put out the cash to do, lol (plus the cost of the truck)

    lets see:

LQ9, home grown ported heads, heavy cam, 200shot, head studds, rod bolts, pistons, slicks, tranny, tuning, headers.

The LQ9 with heads/cam, should get you in the high 12's or maybe mids. I'm 13.3 now, with heads and cam i bet i'm 12's, so that's possible. headers, and slicks and 200shot (with better bolts) will def. get you in the 11's.

anybody going to try it, lol,

i'm i way off on those numbers?

I hear you. That would be a blast to drive and would lay the smack down on most anything on the street as long as you can keep traction. (you know, like your truck&#33

I still think a 99+ RCSB with a v8 already is a good idea and would make a easy swap. The v6 ones are all over but the v8's seem to be few. If you got a v6 truck, you would need to get a LS1 used with all the acc or you'd be in for more work finding parts and pieces...

Be fun working on it though.....
