    ARP rocker trunion upgrade

    I did this a while ago just forgot to post up. Its and easy upgrade but thought it might be useful for some. Here is the part # and link for the ARP trunion upgrade. 13702-KIT http://sdparts.com/details/competition-cams/cc13702-kit

    Not everyone has access to a press to do this job but any one can get a $20 vise. I could have used a press but this seemed easier.

    Tools needed
    Hammer, Brass punch, 3/4" socket, vice.

    Set your socket up in the vice like so

    There is a flat side to the rocker that is easier to set flat onto the socket. Place this side down.

    It will take a couple good whacks with the hammer and the punch to get the bearings to push out.


    Here is your rocker without the bearings

    Now take the one of the new bearings and place it in the rocker and press it in with the vise. You dont have to get crazy just till it bottoms out.


    Now slide your new trunion in and place the outside then other bearing into the rocker.

    Line up the installation washers and place the whole unit into the vice


    Install your new snap rings and you are finished. Now just do it 15 more times.

    It pretty much follows the ARP instructions but just thought I would toss it out there.

    Sticky!! Everyone needs this upgrade ... The rocker bearings fail sooner or later.

    I have heard this suggested before and I know some people will say everyone should do this, but at what point does this "need" to be done. When spinning to the moon? Or at certain horsepower builds? Or.......

    I upgraded to roller rockers, but I did keep my stock rockers. I was going to do this after reading about them spilling the needle bearings into the engine, should I buy the trunion upgrade and keep them just in case the rollers fail?? Good write up, makes it seem easier than I thought it would be.

    Wow yeah thanks for the write up. I caught mine before they trashed my motor. Drained the oils, hella bearings on the end of the plug, Jon told me to check the rockers. Sure as hell one had come apart more or less.

    my uncles stock truck, his bearing went out,found them on oil drain plug during a oil change.this is a must upgrade no matter if spinning high or not they are going to fall apart sooner or later.

    heres what happened to my 6.0 engine (34,000 miles) due to a rocker failure




    rocker came apart,broke the head valve stem seat.had to replace the head!!

    Nice writeup. Now ya got me scared gonna replace mine soon.


    4.8, TSP 220, 6L90 swap, 3400 Stall, 4.10s w/30" drag radial and T76 @ 16lbs.
