    Remote Start

Okay I have a 2000 Sierra that I want to put a remote start on for my wife as she works early mornings. Now my question is they told me I need some kind of interface bypass. It sounds to me like they are referring to bypassing the VATS system. Now I own Hptuners and can bypass the VATS if needed, but is this even needed in the first place? Anyone know what the issue might be? Anyone done this before? Should I even spend the $60 to get it installed in the first place?

i used hp tuners to bypass mine and all is good. Just makes it easier for someone to steal if you do it through programing.

So are you saying that if I leave the VATS in place and use the "interface" they are telling me about I won't have the problem of it being easier to steal?

In my opinion the bypass is a waste of money, but It might be necessary with the remote start. I never had mine tuned out with the engine swap on my 97 firebird, I did the "DIODE" resistor method and It's been working like a charm for 2 years now no problems whatsoever. It cost me all of .02 to do it, and about an hour of my time. I grounded the theft deterrent relay and soldered a resister in the two wires coming out of the ignition cylinder, yeah It makes it easier to steal but If they really want your vehicle there going to get it anyways.

That is a different generation of VATS on the 97. That method worked awesome and was easy. However, the 99+ trucks have a newer style.

They mentioned some kind of "interface" is this going to do the same thing as tuning out the vats?

Yep, but most interfaces have a wire that has to be powered by the remote start in order for the bypass to work. If you tune it out you lose the feature of the bypass having to be powered to work.

So tune out the vats and its just a straight forward install then?
