    Jansen's garage

Hey guys! Well its almost time to get my tax money back and I'm planning on putting it into my truck. Truck is a 99 rcsb silverado with 200,000 on the ticker. Current mods are cai, lt's, 4:11's, ported TB, e fans, built 4l60e, custom tune, egr delete, no cats, and flowmaster dumped after the cab. Original plans were to build an iron ls1 and stay NA. Now the plans are for a mid mound turbo. Reason I'm going with mid mount is because of the simplicity and this truck is a DD and never sees the track but does see Mexico. I've been a machinist and welder for about 8 years so I'm pretty good at fabricating, but being a single father raising a 3yo girl by myself my time is limited, one reason I've decided on mid mount. I've got a cam I bought for the NA ls1 build specs are 226/229 .575 .578 on 114lsa. Also have a set of Shorties and some fresh 853 heads with springs good to .600 lift. I have a tru track not installed, also have 2 sets of 342 gears and a set of 456. I'm at a toss up on which direction to go. I would like utilize as many of these parts as I could. I would love to hear everyone's opinions. I'm thinking buy a 5.3, put the fresh 853s on it after porting them "lower compression" use the cam mentioned with ls7 lifters Turbo it and let her rip. Or just stick the cam in the 4.8 put the Turbo on and go that route. What is the rpm range of this cam in a 4.8? I know turbos like a higher gear. But with the 4.8 since its lacking torque should I put the 456's In, leave the 411's or use the 342's? I really appreciate anyone and everyone's advice and comments.

I say leave the 4.11's. Use your 4.8, just freshen it up with new valvetrain parts. The 226/229 cam should work well for turbo with the split duration. If I'm not mistaken, you "Should not" have to port the bowls on the 853's. They should be large enough to lower your compression considerably. Look for an online compression calculator to get you where you want to be.

That is just what I would do in your situation.

What size stall you think that setup would need?

Thanks! Dead out of the hole because of the stock stall but after 2500 it starts pulling good, building boost at 3000 , full boost at 4000. You dam sure know it when its in boost! I can't post my idle and fly by vid but if anyone wants to see it just post or pm your email address and I'll send you the vids.

Figure I need to update everyone after I read my first post in my garage. I ended up buying a junkyard 5.3 for 350$, this thing was clean as a pin with no oil leaks ! eBay wastegate, bov, and boost controller. Hope I don't get banned for saying this but I bought a masterpower knock off 76mm .81 a/r Turbo. I used truck manifolds and driveshaft tubing laying around work to build the hot pipes and cold pipes. Used eBay silicone couplings. Bought the cam, injectors, pillar pod, gauges, valve springs, from members of this site. I decided to go with an aeromotive 340 fuel pump. As of right now I'm still running a 60e till my 80e and 3200 stall arrives. Got a local buddy of mine doing the tuning. So far I'm about 3k deep in it. Next I want to debadge it, factory 17's, 2/4 drop, roll pan.
