    02 2500hd 6.0

    hey guys, i have an 02 2500hd with the 6.0 and ive done the normal bolt-on accessories, such as headers, tune, intake, exhaust, egr delete because of my headers. now i am finally looking into doing a cam, the truck doesnt even have enough power to spin the tires from a stop unless you are on wet pavement and im considering trading to a dirtymax, but i think id like to build mine a lil bit to get some power before dropping the extra 15k on a diesel plus add-ons. so heres the question, what would be my best cam for low to mid-range power/tq and what will i need to go with it? springs, retainers, and pushrods, will that be it? will removing my cats help me at all? i have already deleted my rear o2. any other n/a power adders that will help me down bottom for play and for work, as i do haul with it also? i know it sounds childish to say but i just want the power to spin my tires and play with once in a while.

    If you want to blow tires off get a stall and maybe gears....

    Get with Allen, he can make um spin! I have the same setup but a 2000 model, you have the 80e trans and that is a plus, you can do a cam and stall, will be burning the tires off!

    So what gears/tires/rims are you running? I've had my 05 5.3 tuned by Nelson and can stripe the street most anytime with 3:73s and 20" rims.

    Your tune may have not removed enough of the torque management GM slips in...Give Nelson a call, he can put that torque back in with a proper tune.

    If your going to cam it, and you've already header'd and tune, then you'd want to tune it again afterwards. All roads lead back to Allen - call him for the map!
    '-05 people haulin' 5.3 crew cab. Nelson Tuned! 17.4MPG @ 75MPH...SLOW, but not bad.

    Yeah, I have it tuned for the headers, and it has all of torque management removed. The truck seriously won't powerbrake. I have 285/75/16s on it now, not sure the gears and unsure if I wanna go that route because it is daily driven, it is 4wd, and I do use it for work also

    k, talked to erica at nelson today and she recommended a custom grind 220/112? i think, she said ill see a good gain w/o a stall and if i decide to ever go with a stall it will unleash even more. i am going to call and get it coming tomm. but this will be my first cam install, do i need any special tools? i read up on ls1howto on the install and they recommend a "JPR Cam install tool" to hold the lifters up while pulling the cam, i went to look it up and i saw a forum with something about just using 1/4" rod? anyone know anything about this? and i have the valve spring tool at work, i dont have the crank pulley install tool, but my buddy at the gm garage thinks gm makes a tool for it, he'll just have to look up the tool number and pull it for me. anything else u guys think ill need for parts and tools? i am getting cam, pushrods, springs, and a new crank pulley bolt. is the timing cover silicone or is there a gasket? is it ok to reuse my stock gears and chain?

    I never got my 01 2500hd ccsb to light them off the line either, no powerbrake, no tire smoke what so ever. Could get it to occasionally chirp 2nd gear, but no black marks off the line

    I will make no mods and with nothing but the keys and permission, blow out the rear tires with a smoke show.

    Driver mod needed.

    Don't buy a diesel unless you really need it.

    My Blazer had over 200K miles when I did this. Don't tell me your truck has less power...

    remember your truck has really good brakes out back so it might be a little harder to burn out. And you prob still wont be able to burn out with a cam and tune.
