    OOps. Broke her tonight..

Well I think I broke a valvespring tonight.. Seeing as i made it to 20k-25k miles on the manley dual springs with a LG G6X3, id say i was probably due. We were beating the HELL out of her tonight, got done doing a 160 pull on a remote area with a runway type getup, got back on the adjacent road, state boy was sitting there. He followed us, pulled me for what also appears to now be a blown HID on my passenger side. Pull over, asks me for my license, i explain i have a handgun in the car and a concealed weapon first, then he asks me "whats the 2 the morgue license plate all about" smiling. I say, well... it makes right under 700 horsepower and its kind of fast. He says "awesome, it must do over 200 with that kind of power and the size this car is, is it an ls2 gto?", hands me my license back, no ticket, smiled and said sweet car man.. i go to start the car. dead battery..

He had to have heard me on that runway, the car sounds like a stock car and has like 3 foot long x pipe from 3 inch longtubes/catless mids into spintech mufflers just with turn downs..Im betting thats why he said i could do over 200, lol..

Anyhoo back to the battery dead with the cop behind me..
Its been giving me issues lately(since moving the battery to the trunk) so ive had to push start it a few times, where ill just park on a hill. I think its my a1000 priming dragging 30 amps, the meziere water pump dragging 30 amps, and the 4 gauge smaller wire to the relocated battery in the trunk with too small of a circuit breaker in line along with an old battery that put the nail in the coffin.

Well,i popped the trunk to get a jump from him, and he looks at the nano nitrous 20 lb bottle and the nitrogen little bottle next to it, the cage, the battery box, cell, and he is like JESUS, shaking his head smiling. tried jumping it with cables off his cruiser, and still not enough, lathargic start, and kept popping the breaker. I think its cause i have only a 60 amp circuit breaker on my battery feed from the front and need something larger along with the battery sucking.

Anyhow after the cop!.. and my friend pushed me down the road about 4 times, and failed to push it fast enough, finally we had a successful push start. Got it running, drove super low rpm and normal till the highway, then some dingus in a m3 wanted me to rev it up. I nailed it just for a second in third at about 50-75 so he could hear the exhaust, gave him thumbs up to each other, and back into 6th. When i think back, when i pounced on it in 3rd, it didnt seem as peppy as usual. It didnt seem to drive strange on the road otherwise though, but we only drove about another 2 miles or so of low low rpm residential driving at 2am.

Pull off the freeway to let my friend off at his house and hear head noise. Anyhow, have my buddy rev it to 2k a few times and hear all kinds of noise from the passenger head. And thats when i decided I needed the doomed ride home without my horse, lol. Didnt take it apart, but im betting something is cashed either from the ass tearing on that runway and rugged rev match downshifts for some video we were making, or the jerking from push starting it and failing so many times in a row abusively jerking it?

Either way, i didnt drop a valve into the cylinder at least so time to tdc/crane valvespring tool swap some new springs in it hopefully... Perhaps some rocker arms or push rods, more to find out tomorrow..

In all reality, what kind of mileage should i be swapping these springs? I kind of feel like a dumb ace here running it hard with that many miles on them and that large of a cam. At least i caught it in time from what it seems..

At least i didnt get nailed. The cop is definately telling his buddies at the station about that one. lol..

20k to 30k is the pretty common standard from what the guys on LS1tech say.

I'd stay away from ANY Comp product. It was recently released that they're diverting resources from quality control to advertising. To ride on their name. And there has been numerous issues with quite a few of their products lately. This is not only Comp, but everything they own.

Those aren't 921 springs there 926 comp newest and badass spring. They begged me to use them, they were so right for my setup for the seat pressures we needed and the base being 1.300. Yeah right comp thanks for destroying a 5k setup. I wont use none of there anymore not even there cams .. this is the second set of springs I've heard breaking. Thanks to Pac they made my new springs

just took stuff apart. NO IDEA WTF the noise was coming from. The springs all look to be good unless its an inner spring that broke? The noise was DEF coming from the passenger side head and over 2000 rpm. The car the last pull i did on it going to third fealt very weak in comparison to its normal feel.

Drained the oil, cut the filter open. Oil clean, filter looked fine. The motor actually looks great inside AFAIK from just looking at it.

The push rods are all straight and look like new, the rockers all move freely and seem to be perfect. I took one of the rocker nuts off, and there were some metal debris on the threads and what looked like a small piece of metal stuck to them. I used my tactical flashlight and looked in to see if the spring was cracked anywhere and didnt see anything. I have no idea at this point. I even pulled off the drivers side valve cover and inspected around in there with the same results.

I guess i just need to pull the springs out regardless and check everything out. Either way, i am running a pretty big camshaft and most of my buddies are telling me the way i drive, replace the springs at 20k PERIOD. I am getting ready to do a blower, so i was going to swap the camshaft anyhow. But just the not knowing or seeing what failed is keeping me in suspense. I just didnt really want to start taking the springs out yet till ive got new ones to go in. I am a brokeass right now and use the top dead center valve on piston/crane spring tool replacement so i cant really pull it all apart till ive got something to throw back into it. At the same time, i dont know if i even want to put springs in the 243s again, parts of me think i just need afr heads (which i can afford in about 1 month)for the blower adventures and id rather put them towards that. Who knows. i just need a break. Watching the tow truck driver drag my car that sits like a desicron off the ground onto the trailer was enough for me today. I really need a beer.

Chevrolade, i saw you sent more money. Ill get that stuff ready to go brother, today has just been a rough one. Please be patient my bro-mie. Ill get you squared away. Was not expecting this fun time.

At least i can see all of the valves, lol... I guess it could be worse so far.. I had that stupid ASP wabbley underdrive pulley though, so maybe the timing chain is about done or something, who knows. I still really think an inner spring broke on these Manleys.

Either way the springs i have are Manley dual springs purchased from HPE since initially i had the megadeath cam.

I'd second replacing them at 20k...921's are the only ones I'd recommend running up to around 40k.

The inner springs can be really difficult to see if they're broken. Sucks to have to pull them all to check, but that's probably the best thing to do.
