    True-trac and gears

Looking for average price of getting true-trac and gears installed? 00 sierra 2wd. Not brave enough to do this install myself. Also what brand gears are the best?

i hate my USA gears. run yukon or that brand that makes the GM gears.... heartbeat will know it off the top of his head. my USA gears from Ron's sing. at first we thought it was the bearings. i replaced every effin bearing wtih less than 1000 miles on them and it still sings... like a high pitched at certain speeds.

what's your backlash set at? hows the wear pattern of the gear? if they are too close its going to sing. you didnt add the synthetic blend stuff did you?

AAM gear is who makes oem gears i think right?

i charge $300 to change ring and pinion and bearings.. if using a new carrier i knock off $25 since i dont have to remove old bearings from carrier..

sounds like your backlash is probably off if they are whining like that, or they werent properly broken in.. from experience, brands to stay away from are Yukon from Randy's Ring and Pinion and Richmond.. i have setup approx 30 sets of Yukon's and all but about 4 or 5 have came back for "whining", replace with G2 gears, same backlash, same pinion depth and no problems.. the Yukon and Richmond are cut pretty close and something about the cut causes them to whine.. you are lucky if you get a set of either of these that doesn't.. i use MotivGear, USA Standard, and G2.. AAM (American Axle) is who makes the OEM gears.. i keep most ratios of the AAM 8.6 gears in stock, along with G2 gears.. pm me for other info..

my Yukons dont sing, i didnt break them in either lol. i have .050" backlash on my gears and the wear pattern is to the inside you could say. its not dead middle but its not too far in.

Paid $200 for my gears and True Trac to be installed, but I did it in my garage with my buddies tools and expertise. The front on the other hand, lets just say thank god for members like GasGuzzler.

Not that they are the best that money can buy, but I'm running USA gears from Ron's with no issues. Been in the truck well over a year now and are quite as can be, and I couldn't be happier with them....

sounds like your gears were setup to tight specially the backlash.. usually what causes gears to sing!!

dont care about gear run in, i usually install gears then go to the track thats enough break in for me <---- dont reccomend but thats me.. i change my gear oil same time i change the oil in the motor every 3 weeks of just racing which usually 8 passes on any given night, i do this for the first 90 days then i only change the oil in the engine.. i just checked the gears on last oil change and the wear pattern is perfect the backlash is still set where i like it soooo i probably wont change the gear oil for awhile unless something seriously goes wrong
