How does your LS1 fuel mileage compare to your old motor?

I'm thinking about 2 different engines for a swap into a small hot rod, LS1 or 2002 4.8. What fuel mileage do you get in your LS1 pickup and what body/drivetrain? Since these motors never both came in the same chassis you can't really use the EPA ratings to compare them.

Well the 4.8 will get better mileage....less power, smaller cubes, means less fuel.

I have not gotten my 4.8 tuned other than the basic, removal and get it running tune. I get around 13 in the city, should be around 17-18 on highway if I would run it on the highway. I hope to get a real good tune so it would improve along with HP an performance.

The weight and rear end ratio of hot rod is going to make a difference in mileage you get

I put a low-mileage 2007 LQ4 in my Jeep. Orignal 258 six got around 16 MPG. The Ramjet 350 I put in after that got about 12-13 MPG. With the 6.0 liter it gets about 14 MPG (and I drive it like I stole it). The 5.3 in my 99 gets around 15 MPG on average.
