    To DBW or not to!

    So I have an 03' 5.3l with the DBW TB, harness, and PCM out of a Silverado 1500 although the engine wasn't supplied with the pedal and TAC assembly! I have searched the internet for this and cant find the right answer for my application which is an LSX conversion into a 1988 Sierra 1500! Do I need the EXACT Pedal assembly and TAC module from an 03' or will other years work? Better yet will it even fit within the confines of my previous pedal? Or should I just go with cable? I'm sure its a redundant question just cant seem to find the right answer!

    The pedal bracket for the DBW fits the firewall with a little modification. The real difference is the pedal location after you mount the bracket. I had to cut and reweld my pedal so it would be in the same place. Some pedal bracket assemblies are all plastic, I am not sure what came in a '03. I would not attempt to guess with matching the TAC and Pedal assemblies. They need to match or the computer won't be able to operate the throttle.

    i personally dont like DBW. i would stick with DBC, but thats my choice

    Your pedal and tac module have to be from an 03-06 truck. And dont forget the little harness that links the two. You can mount the pedal using stock mount holes. Some have done so without modifying the pedal arm but most cut and reweld the arm and thats what I did. From what I could tell, if you dont shorten the arm then the pedal will be too close to the floor and you wont get full throttle before the pedal hits the floor.
    I have DBW in my conversion and IMO it makes little difference when driving. The only difference I can tell while driving is it doesnt take much pressure to move the pedal compared to my old cable pedal took some pressure to push and you knew exactly how much movement you gave it. With the new pedal, if I hit some big bumps or dips my foot will actually move on the pedal because it is so light.
    There are pros and cons to both ways. If you switch to dbc then you have to change out your current cable to one from a 96-98 vortec. If you keep dbw then you plug it in and go. You can have cruise control with both ways (different methods to make it work each way.) I have driven some DBWs that have a serious delay but mine has no delay at all and any delay can probably be fixed in a tune. And then of course if you have dbw you cant pop the hood and make it go vroom vroom.
    A funny thing, the tac module mounts perfectly using the holes from the old cruise box. Seriously, all three line up perfect.

    Well maybe just converting to DBC would be cheaper and less of a hassle just picking up a used TB from e-bay they're at least plentiful unlike the DBW pedal and TAC module which aren't as easy to find. After all the mods I will have to get it tuned any ways regardless... I remember hitting bumps in my 04' yukon, and that used to drive me crazy! Thanks for telling me about the cable from the 96-98 vortec good piece of info there.

    Ya and youll need a 96-98 cruise control cable too.
