    cam question for a 6.0 rebuild

    Has any one used this cam (XFI™ Xtreme Truck, G3 XFI 266 HR15 ) if so how did you like it? I'm currently rebuilding a 6.0 liter engine for my DD with 10/1 compression and TSP stage 2.5 heads. I would like to hit 400hp to the wheels but still maintain a descent idle. Would that be possible with this cam and if not what kind of HP do think this cam is capable of producing.

    You're going to need a lot more cam to get to 400 RWHP. That Comp cam (212/216 .520/.524 115) with the TSP heads in a 10:1 6L will get you to about 340-350 RWHP. The good news is it will have a decent idle. You're going to need something in the 232/234 range to reach your goal, but then you wouldn't have a DD with a decent idle.

    Would the TR224 with 114 ls have a descent idle ?

    A 114 won't be too bad, but that's just my opinion...I wouldn't mind it. It would probably sound like an old school muscle car, and there's nothing wrong with that!

    With full exhaust it definitely will. If the idle is too rough/loud then just get a bigger muffler. My truck with a Magnaflow sounds tame compared to when I have my cutout open or when i have a tiny bullet on there.

    Please explain how muffler size affects idle quality.

    The LSA tells you how rough the idle will be, but if you have it tuned correctly, a 109 idle can be decent.

    If you go with anything over a 218 cam, you will need a stall. Your truck with the 6.0L, 10.5 compression, TSP 2.5 heads, an other boltons will require a 3000 stall at minimum.

    To obtain a decently streetable truck with makes 400 RWHP, get a 228R cam and 3200 stall. Have a live tune done to make it all work well.
