Ok after much searching and following links, am I correct to understand that early and late models are the same execpt for some internal parts, which can be changed over/upgraded when rebuilt? And if not how far back can I go and still work with my 05 silverado?

Yeah Keith--you are correct. The newer ones are better obviously cause of the internals and the location of the cooler line ports. The newer ones have a better cooler line locations for getting the fluid out of the tranny--giving better pressures and better cooling. A Rebuild is a rebuild, but I would try and get my hands on a newer one....01 and up.

yea it just seems that the mid to late 90's are so much more readily available. I would rather get one closer to my model year...but hey if an older one is just as strong and will work, they are cheaper and easier to find!
