    break issues..

BAD FREAKING BREAKS ISSUES... My 2004 SS has been into the shop at least 5 times for break issues. Got the truck, as part of the deal they were replacing breaks since they were squealing sooooob bad. new pads, still made noise, NEW pads again with new rotors. STILL made noise. new pads again and still bad. Dealer gave up and sent me to my shop. 2 sets of pads more and they still squeal.. why?? no one can figure it out. 3 different mechanics, and 2 different shops. what is wrong. new pads, new rotors, new shims, anti squeal goo.. still have issues..

    anyone know why???

How bad is the squeal? How long after the pads does it start? When does it squeal? (only when stopping?)

My last set of ceramics squealed real bad between 5-10 mph when casually braking...went away after like 3k miles.

If it doesn't start RIGHT away, might need to replace slider bolts/ maybe even calipers...something might not be moving free enough.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

mostly when moving about 30-40mph with medium break pressure. the squeal was pretty bad. it isn't as bad now but still bad enuf for it to bother me REALLY BAD.

Do they all squeal or just one? Did anyone check the caliper alignment geometry? IOW, are the calipers centered on the rotors, do the pads sit flat against the rotors, etc?

Slider bolts, or no one has a clue how to break in brake pads.

It seems just the back ones make the noise now. I can't tell if it is right or left side. My friend is a mechanic and thats where i had it, at his shop. he looked everything over, took out the bolts and pics. sliders and everything seemed ok..

Brake squeal is typically caused by the pad vibrating against the rotor. If the leading edge of the pad contacts the rotor at a slight angle, it can cause the rear edge of the pad to lift. Under light brake pressure this process rapidly repeats, causing the squeal. Heavy braking will dampen the vibration, stopping the squeal.

Since new pads come with a bevel on the edges, you probably have a geometry problem with the mounting of a caliper(s). Take a closer look at the caliper alignments - something is not right.

Good call. I was about to say the same. Might as well do a fluid flush and see about new calipers too. Run some ceramic pads.

ceramic pads were one of the kinds we tried. they were really bad.

At that leading Edge where the pad contacts the rotor that has a noise problem I will File it back at a 45 degree angle so it will not build up dust also will not alow things to "build up" when u put miles.. also Yes its important to brake them correctly.. and putting a few heat cycles on them helps greatly !..
