Well yesterday, I was doing some maintenance (new shocks, oil, fuel filter) when I was making sure the fuel filter wasn't leaking after install, I heard a rattling noise and it sounded like it was coming from the Cats, does anyone know if this is common and if it is causing me any problems.

    Thanks,
    R.

It could be the cats. If you look inside, they basically just have diffusion screens in them. It could also be the heat shields against the firewall. I found a rattle there before.

I was just wondering if the rattle is from the cats, would this cause any performance problems.

    Red face

What's up guys?!! Haven't been on in a while. Anyway .... I noticed this topic on rattling. I get a rattle when i hit bumps in the road ,sound like its coming from behind the dash on the pass. side, i tore the glove comp. apart to see what it could be. I will have to check those sheilds you guys are talking about. Also, I am wondering if my cats too are rattling!?? When I am idling in drive at a standstill and then hit the gas a little, just a little, i hear a little rattle that sounds like its coming from under the truck. sounds like an exhaust rattle. I checked my exhaust and there is nothing wrong. Now i am wondering if it is the cats..?? I hate shit like this!! drives me up the wall!!!

    RChevy.48...

fisrt lemme say your avatar is hilarious! Gotta love Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

Yeah if your cats rattle something is wrong with them. I had a set go bad and they were loud as hell driving slow and idling. Mine was caused by a very rich condition (10psi too much FP) and well yeah, hacked them out and replaced them...this was on a heads/cam SBF.

If they go bad on a pretty much stock truck I'd raise an eyebrow to the dealer and see what they say.
