			Project 1999 OBS GMC / whipple lq4 / FLT 4l65

Hey guys, I just picked up a super clean loaded 1999 obs extended cab with tons of options for $600. I needed a reliable work truck that made some decent power so I scored a 6.0 lq4 with a whipple on it at a local yard.

To back it up I ordered a FLT stage 7 4l65e and a yank 2800-3000 stall converter which will adapt the stock flexplate to my LT style trans. (Wanted it all to bolt up as simple as possible.)

The wiring and adapters are all coming from street and performance. I'm keeping the AC they are using a bracket for the bottom end of the engine instead of the usual up top one.

I grabbed a set of the multitec injectors from srt10killer so I can eliminate the crappy whipple electronics. Also plan on bypassing the blow off valve.

The blown 5.7 vortec and 4l60e is almost all the way out of the truck now. Rain and waiting for parts will keep me a couple weeks away from finishing.

The goal is to be finished by the end of July. Seems impossible but I have a lot of faith that it will work.
 - Edit - August is here and im only a couple weeks from being done. Not bad haha

Once its all in I will have slowhawk dyno in bridgewater ma tune out my errors on the obs computer (for emissions inspection) and then have the nbs computer tuned for the bigger injectors and boost.

Comments and questions welcome, I will have a lot to ask as I finish but I might as well start the build thread now. Pictures soon!

so the frame/rockers on this thing had a good deal of surface rust. yesterday i tried my new undercoat gun.

shot through 2/3 of a gallon on just the wheelwells and sides of the frame. so i ordered 2 more gallons and im going to do everything. the stuff lays thick and looks pretty good.

tinkered with the engine, got the old harness entirely off, hooked up the water temp sender, mounted the ac and it does not fit with the engine mount relocation brackets. =(

so the power steering pump has a line cut off the back of it - i think its for hydroboost? can i plug this hole?

what are the ports right above the oil filter for?

slapped in the TC, gettin ready to mount the trans to the motor. there will be 2 bolt holes on the bellhousing unused, kind of makes me nervous. also there are only 3 bolts for the tc to flywheel, seems kind of weak to me.

meanwhile ive spent hundreds on tools and random parts... the tranny shift cable broke upon removal, also the cooler lines and park/neutral safety switch. $400 right there.

so i guess i just gotta keep on truckin =)

					motor mounts: done

 oil cooler blockoff: done

 injectors: done

also sprayed a ton of undercoat on the underneath the cab and frame and cut out the rest of the exhaust

bolted the tranny to the engine but theres problems

the TC bolts are a little more inset from the flywheel i will have to grind on the flywheel i think

not sure how to cover this, do i need some kind of special dustplate?

thanks to phil for his help today, still have a long way to go but gettin it done

					today was wiring day

this afternoon i picked up where i left off with the trucks wiring. it was a total mess as i had left it. i had no problem doing this job but it took hours and hours of my work alone and it used the most thinking out of anything so far in this job. its very simple though and my time doing wiring for work really payed off. klein cutters are a must for this. i also used about 100 zip ties and rubber gloves during the process.

 gross

 starting the organization

 then thin it out

 then organize it
