    Tranny acting up

Ever since I got my truck tuned sometimes it shifts quick and hard into 2nd then quickly in third, and there she stays. No overdrive. Can manually pull it down to 2nd. First just won't happen.

Cut the truck off, sometimes takes a couple times, and she works fine...

    Any ideas???

Need to scan for codes. If it's electrical or even hydraulic in many cases there will be a code in history. I can think of several things that could cause some of that but not all...especially turning it off and back on making it do right. May have some sediment in the valve body.

740 is a circuit malfunction for lockup. This explains the no O/D. 753, 758, and 785 are all shift circuit electrical and hydraulic malfunctions. Most likely your speedo isn't calibrated correctly for your 33's and your VSS is causing havoc on the tranny causing it to go into limpmode. No O/D and no 1st gear are limpmode symptoms. Driving like this will cause major heat in tranny, so beware.....

Maybe he should ask COWL327 , he might be able to give him some pointers .

Must be another topic but I thought I surmised voltage loss to trans connector...causes electrical default 3rd.

740 is no converter lock up as posted above and there are several causes. One is obviously to power to the TCC solenoid and when 740 is combined with electrical (not hydraulic) DTC's for both shift solenoids, you have something to go on.

Hydraulic faults set different DTC's than electrical faults because the PCM knows the electrical is working (feedback resistors internal to the PCM) but does not see the changes on the TFP switch (this switch set sends different signals based on actual hydraulic pressure passages in the valve body). This is how it knows the difference between hydraulic faults and electrical faults.

    Anyway....

Most cases when you have multiple intermittent electrical DTC's there is either a connection issue (at the trans plug, in the fuse panel) or more likely in the electrical ignition switch.

There are other things that will happen at the same time as the trans issue if the problem is with the ignition switch although an '04 is not wired the same as some of the older ones that are easier to see. TBC IGN 0 fuse powers the BCM (one leg at least) and has its source as the same as the source for the IGN 0 fuse that powers the trans on the 2004. Remember, there is one hot wire to the trans on an '04 4L60E and it powers all the stuff inside the trans. The stuff inside is all turned on and off with control (ground) wires from the PCM.

    Condition
Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:

    • The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is ON.

    • The transmission is defaulted to second gear (4L80/85-E).

    • The transmission is defaulted to third gear (4L60/65-E).

    • The instrument cluster is inoperative.

Upon investigation, one or all of the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0740, P0753, P0758, P0785, P0787, P0973, P0976, P1860, P2761, P2764 and P2769 may be set depending on the vehicle.

    Cause
The most likely cause of this condition may be a loss of voltage to the transmission solenoid power supply circuit. "

    What did I leave out?
So his tune has caused a mysterious voltage loss at a solenoid.

You can read and type out a TSB VERBATUM.

I remember that ole TSB bulletin center.....ALL the techs who couldn't diagnose where hanging around that area all the time.

My GM tech manual must be a complete misprint. All the code Def's are wrong....
