timing question please help
i have a 93 chevy 1500 2x4 my question is the engine is a vortec with a after market edel brock multipoint fuel injection 3505 that uses the stock tbi i just need to no if the timing chain covers are the same for the 93 5.7 and the vortec engines i cant seem to get it in time i unplug the wire to time it to 0 but it runs like crap so if anyone can head me in the right direction i would appreciate very much thanks

Physically the covers are different, the 93 is metal and the vortec ones are plastic. Timing should be pretty much the same, when you set it to 0 with the wire unplugged it will probably idle bad until you plug the wire back in and allow the computer to advance or retard the timing.

no changes at all when i un plug it thanks for the info

when i put a timing light on it the where i got it set at runs decent but the timing mark is about a 1/2 inch from 0 turn it to 0 and it runs bad and dies

i got #1 cylinder up took cap off the rotor is between 1 and 8 will tha make a diffrence thanks

Last one I had I had it advaced to 6-8 degrees and it ran pretty good. Give it try there and see how it runs...I would think though that if it doesn't change when you plug the wire back in something is wrong and it needs to be addressed.

Too many variables. There are different covers, balancers, timing tabs, distributors....heck the Vortec is not really even timing adjustable. The ignition systems are way different 93 to 96 and the plastic cover has the CKP.

You have to get the distributor set in there right, or you will never get it timed correctly.
