Not sure if this is in the right area or not, so I posted it here....

I read in an ebay advertisement for a Denali gauge cluster that all the wiring is already in place (as well as the sensor) for the transmission temp sensor/gauge and that GM just didnt put the upgraded cluster in the trucks on the 1500 models unless you bought a Denali/Escalade ETC..

    Is this true ?

Can I just swap the clusters out on my 1500 and get the trans temp gauge option to work ? I really like the sound of this option but I dont want to buy the $200 ~ cluster to try it out if it wont work..

Any ideas ? Comments? Thoughts ?

You'll have to have your mileage reprogrammed onto your 'new' gauge cluster, or just add a decal to your door jab stating the mileage is not correct (legal issue). The mileage is not only store in the ECM, but the cluster as well.

There are a couple of places where you can have the new cluster reprogrammed with the old mileage and engine hour information. You dealer can do this for you and you don't need any other disclosures, because everything is correct.

Thanks guys for the information. I'm just curious how the reprogramming is done ?

I am not trying to avoid any mileage issues or anything like that. I just want the upgraded cluster.

How is the programming done ? Do I need to bring the NEW or OLD cluster to the dealership installed ?

I can swap out the cluster, I just need to know which one should be in the truck when I goto dealership.. I guess I can just call the dealership up but was hoping for some insight from you guys. The dealerships around here are like when it comes to this kinda thing...

From what I have read is leave your original in your truck, they will program your 'new' cluster, then you go home and install it.

I took mine to Zener Electronics in Houston (800) 487-0605. Removed the old one in the parking lot took them both in and the did the conversion for me. The said they would also do it thru the mail.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the information. I 'spose I oughta call the Stealership up and see what they charge and how they wanna do it... But you guys have given me some good insight. Worst case scenario, I will call that place up in Houston and see what they say. I'd rather avoid dealing with the mail system if I could tho....

I don't remember for sure because it was several years ago, but I think it was $35. I remember at the time that I thought it was inexpensive.
