Cam swap questions

Has anyone on here done a cam swap on a 07+ silverado 5.3? I'm getting some money together to do this but I have been reading up on pt.net and it seems like there is alot more to it than the gen 3 trucks. Just wondering if anyone on this site has atempted it and if you had any snags. Thanks.

I replaced the lifters and the cam on a 07 GMT900 2500 6.0. Pretty much exactly the same amount of work either way to me. Of course I pulled the heads for the lifter swap so it was a lot more work but if anything it was easier than the 800 body style.

I am doing one right now on my '07 5.3. You need to buy the cam gear conversion from Lingenfelter to convert fron a 1 bolt to 3 for a Gen III style cam. You need to replace the valley cover with a flat LS2 cover and disable the DOD. You need to replace the DOD lifters and the lifter trays with LS7 stuff. While you are at it, replace the push rods and upgrade the valve springs. Re-tune, and you are good to go. Piece of cake!!!

If you are upgrading the cam, you need to replace the DOD lifters as they are barely able to handle the stock lift. If you are deleting the DOD. you need to replace the valley cover to get rid of the oil solinoids that shoot the oil into the DOD lifters. If you are going to do a cam swap, do it right and replace the parts that should be replaced. Yeah, you might get away with less, but whay half-ass it?

Thanks for the info. Thats the same stuff they were talking about on pt.net. They were saying that the DOD lifters were weak and wouldn't last. When I do my swap, I will take the extra steps and do all that you listed. I can just get all of that stuff from GM right?

ive done it 3 times on my 08' lol,comp now offers the one bolt cams so u wont need the conversion if you do that route.

if you get a 3 bolt cam,like i did,all i got was the ls7 cam sprocket and 3bolts at oreillys.thats all you need.$30.00 from dealer.

Not all 07's have DOD hence my response. If you do it will be more work.

OK, IF you have DOD you should do the above mentioned If you dont, then swap the cam and call it good (I guess).
