    New Old Guy

    Hey All,

I just found out about this forum from the BB 67-72chevytrucks.com and am excited about all the info here.

I have a 69 Chevy Short Fleetside with a factory 350/400t combo that I am going to swap out for a 5.7/4L60e from a 98 GMC Suburban. The Suburban is a 4X4 but I going to have the tranny changed to 2wd and install the setup in my 69 with a behind the rearend fuel tank.

I just read that I will have to have the computer re-programmed for hte change to the tranny....I was hoping to not have it re-programmed.

I haven't started on the suburban jet, still disassembling the 69 right now.

Anyway, it looks like you guys have a ton of knowledge on this subject, so I will be trying to pick your brains soon.

I sure hope he did...cause in all honesty, I would not swap in a GEN II SBC--even if it is a Vortec. I would rather have spent the money on a 6.0L and bolted it to the 400 turbo...

    Thanks for the welcome!

As for the Gen II in my 69.... I got the whole 98 Suburban for a good deal. It had been T-Boned in the right side and I bought it for the insurance buy back of ~$1800. I figured it had everything I should need (except a fuel tank & fuel pump) for the swap. It also has a lot of parts I plan to use such as the power leather heated seats and other stuff. It has a good dog house and left side & rear doors, rr bumper, hitch, seats & such that I plan to sell to offset the cost of it. It is still drivable and I knew the orginal owner & maintance of it, so that made me feel more comfortable than if I had picked one up without knowing any history.

If I had found this site before I bought it I probably would have opted for a 6.0/4L80e combo. I should have done more research before I bought it, but I think I will be happy with it once done.

If you offset the cost (sounds like you can) it will be a good deal.
