    engine start up

this is what's going on , i don't know if its normal but or if something might be wrong . i have a 2001 5.3 and that every time i start it ,it starts and idles as if it has a cam , then 5- 10 seconds later it will smooth out . is this normal with a tune ? i have a nelson tune . oh and this is with the engine hot or cold . your feed back will be vey helpful.

Check the fuel pressure regulator for a leak from the vacuum port. Also check for cold intake vacuum leaks. Both cause this complaint and are common.

Mine does the same thing sometimes. I was told it's either the fuel pump, regulator or fuel injectors. I don't know how true that is, but I am already having problems with my fuel guage being accurate, so I am replacing the whole thing including the pump. If that doesn't take care of it I will move on to the next piece of the puzzel. My truck has 80,000 on her, so it can't hurt..... I don't want to remove the tank twice.
