    5.3 to 6.0 swap

hey guys and gals. i have a 99 gmc ext 4*4 1500 with a worn out 5.3. i pull a 25.5' fifth wheel with it and it is a little underpowered. i have the oppurtunity to get a wrecked 6.0 2500 and i am wondering if i can just swap out the engine??? or is it a bigger job? wiring harness? tranny? and i know the 2500's have the 8 lug wheels, would i be looking at swapping the whole drivetrain. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thnx in advance!

If you are going to swap the engine you should swap the tranny too, the 80e is so much better than the 60e. It will also hold up to towing so much better.
    Step 1. crus at it.
    Step 2. get a hammer.
    Step 3. torch it.

If you look at the front page section. There is an awesome write up for the 4l80 swap. I think the only thing you actually had to do was either swap the trans cross member, or move the stock one back some. 4l80 is longer than 4l60.

    60 to 80?

ok so if the 80 is longer i would need to use the driveshaft from the 6.0 truck and i would have to get a swb truck so it would be the right length for my swb

If they are the same cab and bed length AND you swap the engine, trans, and axle the shafts might work just fine. Besides small stuff the only big thing (not that big) you'll need is a tune.

    6.0 l comp.

so ive read enough to know that a tune is needed for this swap but my question is if i have the comp just lying around from the truck i got the 6.0 l from can i just use it without getting a tune or how much does a tune cost? does the 6.0 comp plug into my 5.3 harness or will this screw with other stuff on my truck

There's a really good write up on here for the swap. Its actually a 4.8 to 6.0, its all the same. And yeah a tune would really be what you would need. Nelson Performance is a good one. You can do a mail order tune. But google Nelson Performance, and look at the stickies in the Lsx swaps thread for the swap thread. Tons of pics, and info.
